The framed envelopes were made up as an example from 7 envelopes

Decorative, historical stamps on the original envelopes with postmarks as illustrated.  They are all different, in good condition. If you would like to take them as selected by us, we will make sure that you get a good copy, otherwise we will be happy to email you with a scan of several so that you can make a selection.

The Countess of Minto, to whom these envelopes are addressed, wife of the Governor-General of Canada.

 Lady Minto once broke her leg while skating (was she perhaps playing hockey?) and was described by figure skating champion George Meagher thus: “I have seen all the best skaters in the world and I consider Her Excellency, the Countess of Minto, to be the peer of them all.”

120115.   Mourning envelope, 1852. this is similar to the one at the head of this page. Black sealing wax seal on back.  We have very few of these. scarce.

120117.  Imperforated penny red and letter. These are folded packages with a sheet of writing paper folded and containing another sheet or sheets. Stamped, addressed and sealed (usually with sealing wax) as example shown.
